Curriculum Overview
At Glendale Jr.-Sr. High School, we offer a dynamic and comprehensive curriculum that serves as the foundation for students' academic growth. Our curriculum is carefully designed to cater to the diverse needs of our students and to challenge them at every stage of their education. We emphasize both academic rigor and creative exploration, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
The following courses are offered:
Honors Courses
Honors courses are designed to provide students with a challenging and enriching academic experience. These courses offer a more rigorous curriculum, allowing students to develop advanced critical thinking and analytical skills. For class ranking purposes, Honors courses are weighted by a factor of 1.07.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in English and History for students who seek a more rigorous academic challenge. These college-level courses are weighted by a factor of 1.1 for class ranking purposes only.
To be eligible for college credit in AP courses, students must complete the culminating exam administered by the College Board. Please note that students are responsible for the cost of the exam.
Dual Enrollment Courses
Dual Enrollment courses offer students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. These courses are provided in partnership with Pennsylvania Highlands Community College and are designed for students interested in pursuing higher education during their high school years.
Dual Enrollment courses are weighted by a factor of 1.1 for class ranking purposes only.
To receive college credit, students must enroll directly through the college for the course(s). Please note that courses, textbooks, and other required materials are at the student’s own expense.
Career and Technology Curriculum
The Career and Technology curriculum is offered in collaboration with the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center (GACTC). Students enrolled in this program receive specialized training in fields related to their career interests, preparing them for success in technical or vocational careers.
GACTC Eligibility Requirements:
Students attending GACTC are expected to remain on track for graduation.
If a student fails one or more required courses, they will not be eligible to attend GACTC until the course(s) are successfully completed through an approved summer school program.
GACTC evaluates applications based on specific criteria for each program and extends acceptance to students who meet the eligibility requirements and are deemed likely to succeed.

English Department
The English Department at Glendale Jr.-Sr. High School is dedicated to fostering a love of literature, language, and communication. BCIT Department (Business, Computer, and Information Technology)
The BCIT (Business, Computer, and Information Technology) Department offers students a comprehensive foundation in the essential skills required for success in the rapidly evolving world of technology and business. A – 92% to 100%
B – 83% to 91%
C – 76% to 82%
D – 70% to 75%
F – 0% to 69%
Honor Roll
A student must have an overall average of 90% and no failing or incomplete grades in any courses to be eligible for honor roll. In grades 9 through 12, all courses count toward honor roll but are weighted by credit.

Principal’s Honor Roll
To be eligible for the principal's honor roll, a student must meet the same requirements as the Honor Roll, except his/her overall average must be at least 94%.
